2013 Review - Part IV

Posted on 02 January, 2014

The Venom 1800-0T is a small form factor professional grade workstation that packs a high performance punch. ZDNet took a closer look at the 1800-0T and reflected on the systems' performance by saying that "video editors, animators, modellers and other professionals - particularly those with limited space and modest budgets - should investigate". The customer response to the 1800-0T exceeded our expectations and it's proven to be an extremely popular product.

The Venom 2306-7T is an affordable and feature packed powerhouse of a workstation, equipped with fast storage and superb graphics capability. The 2306-7T is firmly targeted at customers looking to handle complex workloads but keep budget expenditure tightly under control. V3.co.uk took a closer look at the 2306-7T gave it 4*, performing particularly well in Maxon Cinebench tests.

Boston has a 'Super' Time at IP Expo in London

In October London's Earls Court 2 was the venue for IP Expo, and the show floor was fit to burst with technology companies keen to show off their latest products and services. Boston took on a superhero theme for the event, highlighting how Boston comes to the rescue for customers seeking powerful and energy efficient IT solutions.

At the event we had a live NVIDIA GRID demo, showing how end users can access graphically intensive applications in a VDI environment with no loss of performance or usability. Autodesk's Maya was running at a datacentre in North London and being accessed at Earls Court 2 over a contested network using a thin client. The demo ran superbly with little to no impact on end user experience. Given the less than ideal set-up a show floor offers, it was supremely impressive.

In addition to the live NVIDIA GRID demo we also had on show the ARM-based Boston Viridis microserver and information on the Mellanox products now available from Boston as a result of the distribution deal signed in Q3. IPExpo 2013 was immense fun, with the stand busy throughout both days. We look forward to seeing everyone again in 2014, this time at ExCeL London.

Boston wow's the Broadcast arena in Mumbai

The Broadcast India 2013 event brings together the most imaginative and creative people in the broadcast industry all under one roof, and Boston was in attendance to discuss high performance multimedia media workstations for the creative industry and how NVIDIA's GRID technology can enable the delivery of graphically intensive applications through VDI environments. At the Boston booth presentation area, representatives from Boston and NVIDIA talked to delegates about how they could achieve 'creativity without boundaries'.

Bike-Powered Viridis Heads to SC '13 & HiPC

Boston’s incredible bicycle powered Viridis microserver continued its journey around the world by visiting Denver (SC ‘13) and Bangalore (HiPC) in Q4. The bicycle powered Viridis demonstration allows delegates to experience for themselves the ultra-low power capability of ARM processors. SC13 saw the official launch of Viridis 2.0, now powered by Calxeda’s ARM A15-based EnergyCore ECX-2000 chips. The EnergyCore ECX-2000 chips have built in energy efficient Ethernet and virtualisation technology, delivering lower power usage and higher scalability, making the Viridis ideal for compute clouds, distributed storage and content delivery.

And with that…our 2013 review comes to a close!

It was a fantastic year with loads of exciting developments and great new products. We’re certain 2014 will deliver even more, and everyone at Boston hopes you had a great Christmas and a Happy New Year.
